An Introduction to the Quebec Groundwater Network
In response to increasing demand for groundwater for public, agricultural and industrial use, Quebec’s decision-makers have ensured more rapid acquisition of knowledge about groundwater in recent years. This has resulted in the adoption of Bill 27, An Act to affirm the collective nature of water resources and provide for increased water resource protection, establishment of the Program to acquire knowledge on groundwater (Programme d’acquisition de connaissances sur les eaux souterraines-PACES) and development of an informational portal on water (Portail de l’eau). These initiatives have led to greater public awareness of the need for knowledge about groundwater and the importance of transferring this knowledge to water users and managers. The Quebec Groundwater Network was created in this context in 2011.
